I think - but not too sure - if you are converting to HIDS then you need an auto levelling system and also headlight washers to pass the MOT - not 100% sure so just check before shelling out on the lights

Unfortunately you still see lots of cars driving around with crap aftermarket HID kits so I guess they aren't failing people en masse yet despite the likes of this:

It's a bit of confusion to be fair. I don't think most of the aftermarket stuff is road legal anyway, not being emarked but they don't necessarily fail stuff on those grounds.

Never had any issues with the ones I had in my old mk1 GS. MOT was always fine. The GS did have projector headlights though, which seem to e slightly better for hid patterns than reflector headlights. It was the cheap LED sidelights that used to get questioned more, but once I swapped to the Philips 6000k LEDs, they matched the hid colour perfectly (looked white instead of blue)
