So, coming up shortly to 7yrs ownership of an IS-F and having toyed with selling last year (resolved when kids moved out 🙂 leaving me with drive space free), I've decided now is the time to give it a little spruce up and care (not that it's been abused) Just working out the budget but things I'm looking at include the following Wheel refurb (not terrible but would benefit) - like for like Proper detail in/out Stone chips and minor scratches sorted Possible radiator replacement (pre-emptive - not an issue currently) Suspension updates (coilovers? - providing non-stupid insurance impact) Toyed with exhaust update but ruled that out for the immediate future. Reason for post - partly to request recommendations for people to do the above (I'm not mechanically minded and wouldn't wish to do any myself) and partly to get some comments on what suspension updates might help. I personally like reasonably hard suspension but the other half isn't as keen (and given the current state of the roads!) so looking to get something to soften things up (not interested in track work or extreme road holding). Based in Nuneaton (Midlands) so local(ish) would be useful. If anyone knows a good independent garage for Lexus servicing (all existing servicing Lexus based) then also let me know. Recommendations welcome. Additionally, just thought I'd put out some fag packet costings for longish-term IS-F ownership. Currently 7yrs and no reason to change currently (have other main car) so looking to get past 10 or more. Original cost £20K, assuming 1.5K (ish) per year tax/insurance/servicing average - cost spread over 10yrs, and excluding fuel, will be roughly 35K or 3.5K per year, roughly £300 per month (figures assuming a zero valuation at the end - which (government excepted) won't be the case) Not too bad I don't think, probably the lease price of a fairly basic car these days. Need to enjoy these things before they are priced out of existence.

How to update maps
MartinH replied to Memou's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
It's easier and (for the most part) more reliable to use mapping on your phone. I have a Quadlock magnetic cradle on the lower right of the windscreen and it works well. -
Would Lexus diagnose this for you FOC? Say for an estimate? Or do they charge just to look. If you buy the sensor the Tyre place could fit it on any wheel, how would you know?

I'd give NFU Mutual a try also. Have to go direct but was easily the best when I renewed recently... -

Just out of interest Charles, did you buy from a comparison site, or from Tesco direct? -
Sorry but this seems like a design issue to me. Whether if the NX is made in Japan or Canada shouldn't make a difference in the "design", more likely on the manufacturing quality. I echo what LSFT has said, the early production cars that were made in Japan are also part of the extended warranty program. Then again, I do hope the 22-23 NX in the UK do not suffer from this issue and it is worthwhile to be aware of this potential issue...

Hello all. Recently I replaced the engine in my IS200 after an engine failure. The new engine will not fire up and I have narrowed it down to the spark. Here is a video of the spark plug while cranking and you can see that it doesnt spark at regular intervals. https://imgur.com/a/OXgHQJp I've tried other spark plugs and coilpacks but it is still the same. I have measured the resitance of both the cam and crank sensor and they both show to be in spec. I also cleaned up the ground wire from the engine to the battery but that didnt help either. The only thing left I can think about is the ECU, but considering that it worked with the old engine I'm sceptical that it would be the culprit. Does anyone else have anymore ideas?

CANBUS remedial work with main dealers.

So are you saying they fixed the Canbus problem by encryption or some such method, or did they put a mechanical plate over the access point? -

I insured my RX with Tesco last August. Price was reasonable (~£900) compared to what was being offered on the market (>£1k). The excess on the windscreen replacement was much lower than what LV was asking for. Bog standard insurance purchase experience, online documents came through quickly. Haven't had to claim. -

It sounds like things are getting worse by the day. I have been testing the market for when the ISF comes out of SORN June 1st and prices have settled at about £600 -cheapest - from a lot more ( £800 plus )the month before ( £450 last year ). I just hope prices aren't going up again.🤞I was hoping maybe things had settled down a bit🥲 . -

My expensive thatcham tracker with subscriptions only saved me £40 per year on insurance quotes, so I stopped paying £175 per year for the subscription and stopped declaring the tracker and saved £135 per year. Right or wrong, I don't really want the car back after it has been ruined by a thief. -

Service showing wheel tracking alignment out each year
Malc1 replied to Lynne S's topic in New Members Area
My understanding is that most often the “ red “ for the Rear Wheels alignment isn’t going to affect your driving nor handling of the car …… nor detrimental to the car, tyres etc …….. is there detrimental, discernible rear tyre wear ?? …… if yes then action is needed ……. if not then, well, you know my layman thoughts Perfection will necessitate a remedy …… Practicality …… it might be ok to leave ……. AS with the aircon recharge ! Your depth of pockets will dictate I’m sure Best wishes Malc -

Hi all of you knowledgeable people, first timer here. I have a IS250 2008. I love it to bits but would like to update the sat nav maps. I have checked the manual & it tells me how to eject the old dvd. I haven't done it yet as I'm not sure about taking the front panel off, in any case, when I press the MAP DVD button it says there is no DVD! I have read up on Lexus website & they say either remove the card (I can't find one) or plug in USB stick (I can't see a USB port). Can anyone tell me where to look please as it's not obvious to me. Or doesn't it get updates? Sorry if its a stupid question but it's bothering me.

I'm kind of hoping Lexus will do their best to "advertise" they are now ready, willing and able to fix this significant problem in an effort to dissuade burglar Bill from bothering with our cars. It does seem as if JLR are now reducing the theft rate of their products, but yes I agree for a while longer the Lexus brand will be a prime target and the sooner this problem is resolved the better.
