Nx 300 Rusty Bolts

Recommended Posts

After 10 months I have noticed the bolts attaching all passenger doors to the hinges are showing signs of rust.On investigation it appears galvanised bolts with no other surface treatment are used to attach doors.Galv as a treatment for bolts is usually compromised when the bolts are tightened,so keep an eye out as the car ages as this will become unsightly. My dealer is prepared to treat bolts on first service but this is an unfortunate inbuilt problem on an otherwise excellent vehicle.

John, here is a link for corrosion on the rear seat backrest catches, plus I also noticed the other day that the nut securing the 12v Battery in the boot has similar corrosion/discolouration. Is this anything like your problem.

Dear Rayaan,8 years owning an RX300 and over 2 years of an RX450H without any sign of rust on both started me thinking when I discovered the rust and I will monitor progress and advise.

Dear Colin,My rust is the old fashioned brown in colour showing through the galvanising,so raises the question of whether it is external or internal but I trust the garage to resolve. For the wider community if this is isolated then so much the better or Lexus may need to take a closer look.

Same here 8 years of RX300 and 3 years of RX450h. The only rust spots I can see are on the paint itself but easily removed with Iron X or equivalent.
