I've just bought a 10 year old Is250 and one of the few things that needs doing is the start button face is very worn away. Is it possible to take the cover off the starter and simply replace it or is it a new unit?

thanks.

I would consider an OEM part for this as if there's issues with low Battery in the fob or it runs out on the fob then holding the fob up close to the start button will enable the car to start as it recognises the fob.

Not sure if it has a sensor in the start button itself?

Maybe someone can shed some light ...

Thanks.

theres no issues with battery or key recoding then if I swap it?

There is a good chance it will need re-coding, but I would personally buy the cheapest one with a very good condition button and look to take it apart and just replace the bits you see.

It will be possible but I cant promise it will be simple, it could be as simple as releasing 2 tabs and flicks off but it could also be more complex.

I would approach it like this, buy one from the bay, and work out with that 1 exactly how to remove the parts you require, if you break it you'll be 20 odd quid down, but your car will still be fine and hopefully it'll allow you to work out exactly what's required to remove the parts, best case scenario you break nothing work out how it all comes apart and then you can remove the 1 from your vehicle and swap the parts required and you are good to go same old main body but nice fresh looking button.
