Limp mode

Hello

I’m new to forum and owners club for is220 . I live in dartford and have enjoyed a 10 relationship as a owner of this car. I have it regularly serviced and due to known fault lexus replaced 1st engine at 73 k and now have gone same on 2nd engine so making the car worth little on trade in value

my issue is this car has served me well driving all over uk in the past but recently I retired not used car fir as many long journeys which is not good on a diesel

however I seek advice as at my wits end that just before christmas the power started going and then limp mode check vsd and engine warning light

I was seduced by paying to have degassed and additives added to car didn’t work

rac reset and told me to get a new EGR valve which my mechanic surly did no joy

then we took off the DFP and got industrially cleaned and the car worked but when cold still pulled back a bit until warmed up . It was used on several long runs to Kent coast no issue and then the other day straight back to square 1 limp mode

I am taking to local lexus dealer for full diagnosis on Friday as already spent more than the car s worth to anyone else but me

however HELP as need closure and car back to normal where I feel safe driving it otherwise it’s going to traded and leave lexus which is a shame as loved the brand and car

im wondering if sensor needs changing in engine management thoughts please

thank you

I am no expert in the remedy of faults in diesels especially the IS220 ( and it does have more than it’s fair share of faults!)

I would say you have been lucky upto now ( prob due to your above average extended use) with the amount of problems you have had but now it has caught up with you.
Yes, everything is fixable, but the first problem is Knowing What to fix when presented with irregular running symptoms, and then it’s the Cost/Viability  to fix.

Your comment about having to ‘leave the Lexus brand’ is a shame because you have had prob the worst car to ever wear a “L”badge and had a fair few good years from it, have/would you consider a petrol? As the IS250 is without doubt the best car I have had since passing my test in 1981.

Note: I also am retired and would not run a DERV car if you gave me one! As I only do about 2,000 miles a year now.
