Can anyone tell me if this normal for an Is200?

When starting from cold I get a fast idle of say 1500 rpm for a few minutes.

If I drive off straightway the car is not smooth to drive(discounting the clunk from 1st to 2nd) it does not seem right to me...

My old Audi never did this, always same idle speed even when cold.

I thought fast idles went out with carbs?

Last service at the dealer I got a brand new IS200 SportCross to drive around in, and I noticed the fast idle (1500-2000 rpm) when cold compared to my '99 model (about 1000 rpm).

Must be an emissions update like Colin says, but it is less "relaxed".

Cheers,
