Squeaky clutch helper spring?

Recommended Posts

Hello Lexus crowd, hope you all had a merry Christmas :newyear:

My car has a long list of to-dos that I sadly still haven't got round to fixing.

Particularly annoying of late is an area of 'free play' that has developed in the first few cm of travel of the clutch pedal when you first depress it. It comes with a nice little squeak that makes your passengers think you have some kind of rodent infestation (at least it's consistent with the musty smelling A/C :yahoo:)

Has anyone else here encountered this and were you able to fix it? I have never done any work on clutches, pedals or the like so I'm stumped. But my first guess would be it might be the clutch helper spring that has weakened over time? This would also explain why the pedal feels quite heavy.

Hello AFlex,

There are a few potential fixes for the problem you are describing, so fingers crossed it is something simple.

First, you could check for adjustment in the pedal free play:

If that doesn't work, then the pedal and hook springs are located here:

Lastly, the clutch master cylinder might be at fault, which is quite painful to replace as it requires all the lower dash panels on the drivers side removed in order to access it.

Best of luck!
