A/C question?

Recommended Posts

Since getting the ES 14 months ago l have always thought that I've had the air con on full auto as can be seen on the dash panel (not the screen) that shows the 'recirculation' and 'auto' buttons illuminated, the A/C has worked perfectly in hot and cold weather maintaining the car temperature accurately. A couple of days ago while fine tuning the heated seat settings l came across this setting in a car customisation sub menu (see photo) that shows auto A/C set to 'off'. Totally confused l turned this to 'on' to see what happened, and it blew cold air on my feet immediately, even though the car was very cold. I have now turned it 'off' again and everything has returned to normal. I've looked through the manual but could have missed something. Can anyone shed any light on what this setting is please.IMG_20230304_151130_689.thumb.jpg.7480653adb7853e57e7a23d2426489c3.jpg

Is the Off label meaning it can be set to off, not it is off? That used to be the logic in my Mercedes, confused the hell out of me at first.

Ah! I see what you mean. So if it says 'OFF' it means it's 'ON' and if you want it 'OFF' you press it? So for us humans if it says 'OFF' it must be 'ON' and if it says 'ON' it must be 'OFF'? In other words you are changing the option not the state.

It’s off  …….. if you press it it changes to on and the little light comes on

Japanese logic

Which 'little light' are you referring to? You will see on the photo that the auto light is on.

Got the old brain cells working and have found the  solution ….whilst playing with the system in the ES……and remembering on my last journey the recirculate and fresh air indicators kept changing …….

The hard keys under the display can control the climate functions and when “auto “ is pressed  fan speed air outlet direction and temp is controlled automatically.

When the soft key auto A/C is set to on ( default condition ). The climate system automatically adjusts the recirculate and fresh air function and the auto light for the hard key is illuminated. The climate system then periodically will switch the recirculate and fresh air mode to keep the car climate system constant to what has been programmed.

hope that helps

Thanks, so what happens if the soft key is showing 'OFF' as in my case?

The system auto switching between fresh air and recirculate is normally due to the smog sensor, not to keep the climate system constant - it uses the cold/hot air mixture for that.

From the Lexus-tech doc for the climate control in the RX
