Firestick via video port in rear - LS600hL

Recommended Posts

Hello all, thinking of ways i can bring my new to me LS600hL a little more up to date for my passengers in the rear rather than having to rely on DVD entertainment alone.

My thoughts currently are whether i could get a firestick to play netflix, youtube etc on the rear tv by using an hdmi to video adapter lead to plug into the rear video port (the three coloured holes). In my head i have visions of plugging it in, connecting via hotspot to my phone and then choosing the video option on the tv to bring up the firestick apps.

Does anyone know if this would work or have any suggestions of what you have done in your cars?

As for the front, i have looked into the GROM VLine unit from america to get apple carplay on the central screen, but its expensive and reviews are mixed, and the technology inside it is ancient in itself. I think i may just buy a wireless airvent mounted charger that plugs into the 12v cigarette lighter so i can charge my Iphone and use apple maps on the phone itself, and then get a second cable lightning to 3.5m AUX to plug in so that i can listen to my music through the cars speakers and get the benefit of the Mark Levinson quality. And of course the phone is connected to the car via Bluetooth for calks already. Has anyone else done this or got any recommendations of alternative ways to get benefit of modern functions?

Since the LS460/600 radio has the standard Toyota 6+6 connector, I assume you should be able to add a Bluemusic module to it for Bluetooth playing of music.

If something is already using the 6+6 socket (does the LS600h have a CD changer in the boot?) then you will also need the 6+6 Y-cable.
I use that on my LS430 and it works extremely well giving CD quality audio from my phone. All I have to do is hit the CD button on the radio twice to select CD2.

I bought and fitted a USB charger that I hard wired to a switched 12v line so that I have a dedicated charge cable for my phone without monopolising the cigarette lighter socket. It also powers my TomTom satnav. https://www.amazon.co.uk/JZK-Converter-Voltage-Connectors-charging/dp/B06XSCCLCD

W.r.t. the Firestick, that could work but running video streaming via a cellphone in a moving car is probably going to pause a lot due to buffering, especially if you get stuck in a traffic jam where all nearby users are using the mobile data channels.
