Anti Theft Plates/Plates ?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

My 2016 RX 450h F-Sport is going into Lexus tomorrow for its annual Service & Mot and also having One Anti Theft Plate fitted to Passenger Side. Does the Drivers Side not need doing as well ?

TIA

Rob

I had both sides done as recommended by Lexus Customer Relations.

But the passenger side does seem most vulnerable and maybe they are short of stock (assuming it's the same part for both sides).

Rob, please ask your dealer to clarify why this is and report back.

I have no idea whether they did both sides on mine last weekend, but the parts were on back order and took about a week to come into stock.

Cant get through to Lexus Guildford at the moment but just spoke to Customer Relations at Lexus UK, and they said the Protection Plate Kit comes as One Kit and contains both N/S and O/S Protection Plates, and the Lexus Centres are told to fit both.

Hello Everyone

Please can anyone confirm that the NX 300H also requires the anti-theft plate. I have just purchased an NX 300H 2019 and it appears I am not going to be lucky as my dealer is struggling to provide answers. my NX was stolen last month and I am keen to protect the car from being stolen again.

It probably does require a plate, but I’m afraid Lexus haven’t produced one - they are only available for the RX.

Simon.....do you know if your vehicle was stolen by a can bus attack on the nearside front wheel arch?

@Hayzee I honestly don't know and the police didn't say. Vehicle was abandoned after a Police chase. I suspect the theft was via key cloning as my key wasn't in my Faraday pouch. I am hearing CAN BUS attack is not possible on NX 300H. Not sure if that is true

There would be damage to the nearside front wheel arch and possibly bumper if a canbus attack. We are fairly sure that the NG NX 2022 onwards is not susceptible to canbus due to using the Toyota Security Key (TSK), however we have contradictory claims about earlier NX models (which don't have TSK) and Lexus will not make any definitive statements on the issue. Most NX models can be vulnerable to key cloning, but we know of ways to avoid that threat. Even without a Faraday pouch it's possible to temporarily turn off the signal from our keys to avoid this.

You need to ask your dealer more publicly. Shout if necessary. Centre of the showroom. They’ll get you the information then. Or ask Lexus themselves on twitter, Facebook, instagram.

LC, NX, UX, ES, RX and maybe others are at risk. Only RX has been graced with a solution. If our dealers don’t know if we have a problem what’s the chances of a thief ripping our bumpers off to find out? Fairly high I’d say.

Car back from Lexus, Guildford.

Serviced and MOT'd for another year and both Protection Plates supplied and fitted free of charge.
