Ball Joint

Hi all

Finally tracked a creaking sound down to a rear ball joint but been told by mechanic you can't get the ball joint on its own, there's a whole section that needs to be replaced containing this joint which is £120 plus 3hrs labour. Why is nothing easy? Mind you Lexus would probably charge 300 for the part alone!!

someone is telling lies. its not a 3 hour job. can't remeber how much I paid for my ball joint but I think it was less than £130 and I'm sure you just buy the ball joint

I have the same problem with mine creaking at the front offside, I have just ordered a ball joint on saturday £38.00 plus vat and pick it up tommorrow although it was from a local motor factors and not Lexus. I will let you know how it goes when it comes to fitting it.

Perhaps he means the rear drop link - thought they were £75'ish - had mine done on warranty last year so cost not known.

This sounds more likely because isn't there more than one balljoint on the rear drop link? In the mechanic's defence he's going on the supplier's advice and price. I'm getting him to have another look to make sure I don't get ripped off because it does seem ridiculous that you can't just pay for a simple ball joint + fitting.
