Is200 Problem?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have a quick question regarding a problem with my IS, When crawling along at low revs the engine lets off a rough engine tone, Which i can only explain as a rough deasil engine sound. once i have gone past about 2.5K/3K revs it goes away and the ride is soundless. It drives perfectly fine. Just makes this annoying noise.

It sounds like the problem may be coming from the gearbox, This has raised a eye brow as i have just had a new clutch put in the car by a private garage. Maybe they havent put it back together properly and part of it is nocking together to make this sound?

Any ideas on what it might be? or shall i go back to the garage and see what the 'crack' is.

Cheers,

Sam

Sounds a bit like a (cured) problem on mine. One of the 3 bolts that connects the cat section to the manifold also bolts these parts to a chassis bracket, right next to the gearbox. Probably due to that bolt being too loose for some time the hole in the chassis bracket had widened a bit. This allowed for a soft rattle at low (near idle) rpm, especially when pulling away. I put a self made busing into the hole and tightened everything up - sound gone.
