I am gong to buy a lexus gs430 in the nest few days and have already booked a test drive, I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what to look for on the car i.e a buyin guide, its a Lexus GS 430 SE registered in 2002 with the navigation system. I would like to know whether there have been any recalls on this model which should have been completed.

No real problems with the GS range. Just make sure cambelt has been changed if mileage is high. Watch out for the standard rules regarding car purchases, i.e. look for signs of clocking, abused engine/gearbox, etc.

You should also check out the speed cameras in you local area. With a GS430 you really need to know!

Make sure it has the memory seats - it might be a 2001 model sold in 2002 - can be really annoying not to have them. See what version of DVD it is - £200 odd to upgrade it to the 2004/05 version. Should be the revised satnav with the route preview and calendar functions.

Had a few GS430's and the suspension can often be a problem if the car has LED a hard life - subject to wheel wobble and constant correction of steering when driving are typical symptoms. Had 3 GS430 SE Mk2's and a 2001 GS430 Sport - now on a 2003 Mk 2 GS430 Sport which were all from Lexus dealers so know the suspension issues well.
