Ls Front Disks

Hi Fellas,

Does anyone know if the LS400 S1 brake disks are the same Toyota part number as another Toyota / Lexus model? Maybe the Camry?

It's that time and I just bought pads for 11 quid inc postage (Camry 2.2 GLS) as opposed to 30 quid for LS ones, the part number is the same.

Wondered if I could apply the same principle to disks, people expect you to pay extra if they advertise Lexus parts, they expect you to demand value for money if you buy Toyota

true, but I'm talking about flea-bay and private motorfactors, thy often need to clear stuff out and sell at bargain prices.

Call me cheap but I'm at the cheap end of the LS owning curve

You're telling me that S1 discs might be the same as the Camry? Surely the LS's discs would be beefier since it's bordering on 2 tons and has to be capable of hauling down from 155mph (in theory)?

True Maneesh, but the pads are the same with the same co-efficient of friction and surface area.

The difference could lie in 2 places:-

the effective raduus of the brake disk (axis to centre of caliper piston)

the ratio of foot pedal - master cylinder - available servo asistance to output pressure to the caliper, then the bore size of the caliper.

All that said, I just designed a brake system for a wheel loader and used the same brake pack at the exle end to stop a 6.5 tom machine as it's 9 ton big brother, purely because using the same system keeps the volume up and the cost down.

I reckon Toyota/Lexus designers are far smarter than me and they will have used as many comon parts as possible.

I've just bought a pair of FERODO discs for £62 and Mintex pads £20 for a '98 Mk4 LS400 from an eBay seller that deals in clearance/surplus auto spares, he might still be listing bits and pieces, if not and you are interested I will give you his email address or phone No.

These are brand new items at well under half price.
