Wandering And Vibration

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help me? I have a 99 is200 and it’s wandering, very hard to keep it going straight. I brought it to Lexus and they said I needed a rear LH hub because a bushing was worn and a front LH bottom ball joint.

I changed both with little difference to the handling. I also have a vibration at about 70mph when I take my foot from the throttle. It seems to be only when the torque from the engine is not on the drive as it goes away if I decelerate in gear, when I coast in neutral it stays vibrating. I don’t think the guys in Lexus like dealing with the IS200 suspension as diagnosing problems with it is extremely difficult

Hi... welcome to LOC :)

I presume they have checked the tyres?

Tyres can tell you alot, look the wear pattern and look for any abnormalities, also were the wheels balanced recently.....

If the car needs it's geometry to be adjusted then this will be obvious in the tyres unless they have been recently changed....

Has the car ever been crashed?

Where is the vibration coming from? front or rear?

just a thought. could it be ur shocks? changed the rears on mine and it got rid of the shuddering on the brakes. think the fronts need doing now cos it does wander slightly.

Thanks for that. I'll check the shocks. it has been handling strange on cornering lately. What sort of price did you pay for the shocks?

Have you got the corect pressures (35PSI) are the wheels balanced,Discs warped?

thanks. I have seen a good few post about the warpped disks but mine doesnt seem to be vibrating on braking, I feel no vibration through the brake pedal. the wheels are balanced and preasure seems fine.

do the track rod ends give trouble on the IS's?

thankls for the help.

It has no crash history. its been service from new by toyota/lexus. i dont know am i just paranoid but i keep thinking a feel slight knocking through the steering wheel.. could be just making myself think that. I brought it into lexus and they said i needed a lower pass ball joint and a rear hub. could they have missed track rod end's? are they known to wear on the IS?

not sure about the vibration, i lowered the car 30mm using eibach springs, and then had the geometry set by dealers . i too had a problem with the car wandering it was also difficult to keep in a straight line and would follow the road towards any slant, camber or poor road surface, ruts etc. the steering would turn excessively, especially on braking.

was also told lower ball joint was worn, but got it double checked independently and it was fine.

have you got any irregular tyre wear? mine was showing signs of wear on the front outers, so i took it to an independant garage and had the geometry set, all i can say what a transformation on handling it now drives perfect with non of the problems i listed above mate.

have you had the geometry checked?, even if you have i would get it checked again may be elsewere!

i now love driving the car again, it feels like a new car even though it is six years old!

i havent had it checked yet. I am getting tyre wear on the insides of the front but I didnt want to get the tracking done until i got tyres and i didnt want to get tyres until i found out if i had bushings or track rod ends gone. but you sound like you had the same problem so I'm gonna take your advice.

getting new shoes on my lexi tomorrow and gonna see if she's straight.

thanks mate.
