Advice On Tyres

Recommended Posts

I picked up my IS200 on Thursday and drove to London on Friday. Just after Reading services, the front left tyre started making a strange noise, so I pulled over to discover a huge bulge in the sidewall. Yesterday I went to get the tyre replaced at National Tyre, only for them to discover that all four tyres are retreads. The tyre fitter said they are supposed to say retread or remould on the tyre and have a BS Kitemark, both of which are missing. So, I've had to buy four new tyres (the spare is Dunlop SP9000 and in good nick).

As I bought the car from an independent dealer, do you think I'm covered under the sale of goods act? The tyre fitter didn't actually say the tyres were illegal, and it looks like they passed the last MOT, but I'm pretty annoyed at buying a car with such pieces of C*** fitted!

Any advice appreciated!

Simon

It all depends on what is called "fit for purpose" and wherever you buy a car from a dealer, franchised or independent or even from a private seller the same rules apply

If you were sold anything and it was not suitable for the purpose that you were told it would be, then you can ask for the item to be fixed or changed

most warranties specifically exclude tyres from the warranty document same as most rubber, clutches and brakes as these are the things that the driver can wreck easily

did you keep the tyre that went as proof ?
