60k Service

Recommended Posts

I've been to Lexus Bolton today and they gave me a price list for the parts for the 60k service, it is booked in for Friday (not at Lexus)

Can anyone tell me if any of the following is not needed, or if I can get a cheaper alternative for any of the parts?

OIL FILTER £7.39

GSKT DRAIN PLUG £0.78

AIR FILTER £33.92

BRAKE FLUID £5.25

TIMING BELT £26.08

TENSIONER £45

AUX BELT x3 £36

These prices don't include VAT, and i've been told I'll get 10% off for bein a LOC member, and the garage who is carrying out the service has told me they would only get the parts for the same price as me and they have told me that labour will be £35 per hour + VAT and work will take 5 hours approx, compared to Lexus wanting £95ph

Seems fairly good to me to be honest

cool, positive first response, also, roughly how long does a water pump normally last?

The garage i'm using is called Brabbs Motor Works and they are a BMW specialist, has anyone from NW taken their car (regardless of make) to this garage and did they do a good job?

Technically should never fail but thats something that changes car to car. Some people do change them at the same time as cam belt as you have to remove the same parts to get to it.

But if you didnt change it and it didnt go wrong you'd have saved a bit of cash.

I'm gonna buy one anyway and trust the garage to tell me honestly if it doesn't need changing, so I can get my £100+ quid back off Lex

Water pump? I have bugger all knowledge of the workings of an engine, basically, if my water pump is faulty/leaking, how would I know without stripping the engine to check the pump itself?

Had the service done today (sorry Dave I couldn't get hold of you in time to have Lexus Bolton do it on the cheap) water pump is fine so I'll get my £100 back :D so the total 60k service including cambelt, tensioners, aux belts, labour etc, came to £500 which includes the plugs that I haven't bought yet

i'm happy with that, my bank account isn't, but I am

Garage rang me an hour after I dropped the car off as Lexus forgot to give me an air filter, when I checked my invoice, I had indeed paid for one, so they have had an extra £35 out of me too :tsktsk: i'll be having words with them monday!

My mistake, the air filter on the invoice at £35 was the Pollen filter, which I did receive, the air filter was £18 and they hadn't charged me for it never mind supplied it, so they've given me that now (not free :() but at least I don't feel ripped off :D

I got my 60k service done recently and it was £125 inc parts although i supplied spark plugs andi had a K&N filter they didnt replace(obviously)

I was a bit miffed asi asked them to change my timing belt and they told me that it was a specialist that should attept it.

So i am now looking for a specialist in the Edinburgh area.
