E-shift Faulty Or Okay ?

On my 2002 IS300 I occasionally switch the gearbox into manual mode but whenever I do it and at whatever speed it always goes into 5th straight away and I can never get it to go into 1st, even at rest. It switches between gears fine so is this how it should be or do I have a problem. Don't have a handbook so cannot check. Thanks.

Sounds absolutely fine. Don’t forget that you’re not selecting a gear, you’re merely setting the highest gear which the auto box can use, so it always defaults to “5” until you do something different, and “2” is as low as it goes.

Thats exactly what mine does too. Im still sure its not right though. I drove another is300 before i got mine and im sure it had some kind of speed sensor on the auto box that put it in the right gear when you switched it across.

The car could be in any gear, but when you first move into manual the display will always show 5. As I said before, the display simply shows the highest gear the car could use, not the gear it is actually in. When you go into manual mode, the highest gear is always 5, until you use the buttons to change it.

Manual mode with 5 is not "in 5th gear" it is exactly the same as normal auto == 5 gears are available.

Yeah, sorry HI!! Should have said hi before...

I still think that the other one i drove said on the display the right gear at the time....

Hmmm, maybe im wrong..
