Newbie Question - Why No Rear Wiper On Gs?

A dumb question from a newbie to the forum. I'm the proud owner of an 03 plate GS300 (80k on the clock, FSH, one previous owner [i did a computer check to verify this], who used it just about solely for long trips on motorways here and on the continent). I'm really liking it, but I have one tiny question - why no rear window wiper? Visibility is not as good as it could be in rainy weather, and a wiper would solve this problem in a trice. Given the incredible design and planning in the rest of the car, this seems an amazing oversight. I can only assume that the Lexus design team had a very good reason, but as yet I can't fathom it.

Actually, there is another question - I love the Mark Levinson sound system, but why oh why put a cassette player in it? They were history to any hi-fi buff by the time the car was made.

I think it's a trait common to all saloons. The IS300 SportCross, being a hatchbacky-estatey thing, has one.

i think this is because rear windows to not foul up as easy as hathback windows.. ie dirty roads and spray foul the windows but not on a saloon

I don't have a problem with visibility in rainy weather, and I have the rear spoiler and the back screen is limo tint too. You get used the car to be honest, give it a few weeks.

not sure why it didnt have one, or even an option.

i had a primera saloon before the gs, it didnt have one, and was very rare on others.

i've seen skyline r34's, and nissan 200's with rear wipers.

theres a special compound you can wipe the windows with that make water bead up so its more clear to view out from.

Thanks for the replies, guys (and I'll certainly look out for Rain X).

It was just curiosity - after a few years of a hatchback, I guess I was getting spoiled about having a v. clear view!

I put Rain X on my windscreen "NEVER AGAIN" its ok untill your driving at night in the rain with wipers on and lights coming the other way "major smearing" cant see where your going :shutit: , but ok on the back.
