Dead Ignition

I have now had the strangest thing happen on 2 occasions over the last 12 months, i have gone to my car and used the key to open the doors in the normal way on inserting the key into the barrel and trying to turn nothing happens, it is as if the key is not the right key for the lock, get out lock the doors with it open the tailgate all fine and switched the intruder system of all fine, put the key in the barrel absolutely zilchagain will not physically turn in the ignition barrel, after leaving it in for 10 - 15 seconds whilst scratching my head or getting ready to call RAC take it out and try again bingo turns as normal and everything is fine, any body any ideas as to what may be happening.

My thought is that one of the buttons may be getting pressed in my pocket and when inserted into the barrel not enough power to transmit the code into the immobiliser after a few seconds in the barrel it may have pulled enough power from the car (presumming it works like other systems) to send.

Sounds mechanical to me, have you tried a little light lubrication of the barrel?

the ignition barrel is buggered - about £80 from the stealer for one to match your existing key. there is a loop around the barrel for the immobiliser but there is no loop to charge the key Battery or any other electrical system/device to "lock" the barrel if the wrong key is inserted.
