Emmisions

Recommended Posts

The previous owner of my car told me that it would not pass MOT emmisions tests running from cold and that even with the engine well warmed up, it just scraped throu.

Now, running a TTE charger (TTE airbox) and a Hks silent zaust, are the emmisions usually that bad? Or is an indication that he has, in fact, had the pre-cats removed?

Is there even any way i can check, without removing the manifold?

Seems very strange for it not to pass if it was standard.

the cats may just be faulty?

As for removing the precats, have a look at the manifold, see if theres any weld marks that dont look standard?

Is the standard cat still there? Have a look under the car, see if the normal cat looks standard etc

If everything is standard, they may well be faulty.

Pretty sure the main cat is still there. Will have a proper look tomorrow (if i remember).

The guy said something about getting the manifold done, but i think at the time i asumed he meant inlet manifold done with the charger kit!!! Now not so sure!

Maybe TDi would have a record of wok carried out, as i know they did ALL of it.

my precats were removed but you'd not notice it without taking the heat shield off from around the pre-cats as it was replaced to look standard.

not emissions problems when its hot by all accounts...

Hmm TDi and records......

 Stav you said what I was thinking as I read through this thread. Sounds to me like the pre-cats

were taken out, as the mention of "when cold" runs true. It should pass the emmissions test if

thoroughly warmed up and the main cat is working properly.

And we're talking 3+ years ago!

Yeh, same here i think!

Yeh, i thought this may be the case. Will pass when fully warmed up.

Looks like they have probably gone.
