Ls430 Key Fob Battery / Taillight Warning

Recommended Posts

The Battery on the spare key fob of my 2000 LS430 is flat but I note from the owner's handbook that I need to take the key fob to the main dealer to get the Battery changed. Is it possible to open the key fob yourself and change the Battery?

Also the rear tail light bulb failure warning light is on constantly but the garage that MoT'd the car cannot find any blown rear bulbs? Is it likely to be a faulty sensor or a bulb they haven't noticed, e.g. lights above number plate?

Many thanks in advance

The light, Does it come on after you press the brake pedal after start up or is it on straight away from turning the key?

Have you had your brakes changed recently?? The sensors on the brake pads are broken. Around £50 for new sensor or just join the wires together.

I have changed the Battery on both my LS430 smart key fobs, with no side affects, the batteries only cost a few pounds.

you just slide back the key release slider , and carefully prise the end section off, the end section is the part with the key release slider on it , lever it from the key end, you will see a small slot to inset a small flat blade screwdriver.

I did one at a time and tested it on the car just to make sure, just be aware which way up the Battery goes, as there are no markings on the casing.

I think Lexus charge around £60.00 just to change a fob Battery!!

you must remember to keep the keys at least 15 feet away from the car and other electrical devices , it seems the key likes to talk to the car,and may try to talk to you mobile etc.. and it can also cause your car Battery to go flat.

The rear lights monitored would probably only be the brake and running lights, it just measures the resistance of each circuit, you may just need to take them out and very lightly sand the solder pads to remove any oxidization.. I'm sure I had a the same problem on my A8.
