Some Pics For Aztecbandit :)

Recommended Posts

Seen as you asked nicely while banning me !

here are a couple before I got it..

Here is one after I have had it a few weeks..

Stripped the mudguard, completely rewired it, brand new headlight,

added some parts that were missing, and finally got it running..

I don't like the exhaust one bit... I will eventually get some std ones..

in the meantime, I have stripped, sanded and polished the one that is fitted..

I'm still looking for a front master cylinder, parts of the airbox, and a pair of rear shocks.

Very nice John, :D

Its nice to see a real bike for a change instead of all the plastic that goes around nowadays :) The first thing i saw was the exhaust in the first picture and thought that it would have to go but it does look a lot better now its been prepped and polished B) Nice job you've done by the way, i'll have to pick your brains on the process some time as its always something i'd like to have a go at?

Always liked the older bikes as they always seem to have more character than the modern bikes because they had more metal and shiny bits, plus the basics of them are so much easier to work with like the older cars and not like the cars/bikes of today, they were more involving and fun to own and drive/ride :D

Only ever owned small bikes but its something i've been thinking about doing for the past few months but not sure what to go for, another old car like the classic mini's again (i've had 13) or a bike for a change as i find the older vehicles more enjoyable to own :D

i'll keep my eyes open for any parts mate, as i do search a lot of sites for bits and pieces plus i go to a few bike shows that come up so if i find anything that you need i'll let you know :)

Chris... :D

Thanks for the kind words Chris, and I know exactly what you mean..

Once it's looking really good, I intend to go to a bike meet like Squires cafe..

It's amazing how many look at the classic bike rather than the newer ones..

They all seem to look the same these days..

By the way, the polishing was easy peasy... the hard part was getting the paint off.

I used my Dewalt DW433 random orbital sander...

got it as smooth as I could, then swapped over to a buffing pad, and threw some autosol under it..

literally takes seconds to buff it up.. hours by hand..

I go upto Matlock quite often and there are loads of classic bikes that turn up there, as its always been a meeting place for bikers, But something you always notice is the people crowded around the older bikes more than the newer ones, as most look the same nowadays and with the classic's you find people have owned them at some point in there lives and can tell a few good stories about them, which i find more interesting than hearing how fast theres goes and how much the carbon go faster seat cover cost them

I'll have to have a go at the polishing, not much on the IS200 to have a go at, but i've got a set of old alloys i can practice on :D

Thanks for sharing your project mate it nice to see what people get upto in there spare time ( i'm just nosey really  ) :D

excellent work there John, I may do the same with some of my Supercharger Pipework & Supercharger :D

Nice to see an old GS getting some attention. Nothing like spindly forks and rubbish brakes

to make a spirited ride erm more interesting :o :o :o

As an update....

I managed to get a good front master brake cylinder the other day.. fitted it yesterday, and the brakes are now working well enough to pass the test..

Sorted out the airbox, and filter, and she's just about ready for testing.. just need to get the Hagon shocks fitted I got a while ago, and sort out the rear tyre, as it's not on the rim right..

Hopefully next week it may be roadworthy... can't wait to have a burn on her..

Oh superb , the memories are flooding back , I'm feeling all nostalgic now , here's a few pics of some of my rides , First my XT 500 which was superb and spent the majority of its life looking upward or airborne , then my Escort which started life as an XR3i which I duly done up and replaced the engine and the likes with a transplant from a duly demolished , friends RS Turbo , believe me it wasn't for the faint hearted , then lastly my 325i Beemer which was lovely but was as juicy as a cucumber , nice tho , sorry just felt compelled to share a bit of nostalgia there .

Cheers guys

Regards

Paul.

Well, time for another update..

Let the rear tyre down, in order to fit it properly on the rim, but it was so stiff, it wouldn't budge..

took it down to the local tyre place, and they virtually condemned it :tsktsk:

Had one of the new Conti Go's fitted, and then got a matching one for the front..

fitted the hagon's, booked her in for the test, and called it a day..

D-Day... 10 hundred hours..

Ignore the gesture.... it's a wind up for someone else !!

So there we have it.. on the road where it should be... albeit waiting to tax her.

Certainly was Bandit.... all ten minutes of it ! (5 each way)

Just waiting for the paperwork so I can get it taxed...

I can't do it online, as the insurance isn't showing up yet... and even so, I have to wait until the tax disc arrives before I can ride her.. so I may as well just wait for the docs, and go to the local PO..
