Lisbon Treaty For Eu: Ireland To Decide Tomorrow

Extracts from the article Irish referendum

"The fate of a treaty designed to streamline the institutions of the 27-nation bloc lies in the hands of just over three million Irish voters, less than one percent of the EU's 490 million population."

"The treaty would give the EU a long-term president of the European Council, a stronger foreign policy chief with a real diplomatic service, a more democratic decision making system and more say for national and European parliaments."

Our House of Lords has voted AGAINST holding a referendum on the EU treaty. See link House of Lords votes against a referendum in the UK

It'll be close ... ;)

so we have the French threatening us with the consequences it we vote no .... yet it was them that voted no a few years ago...

one of the main concerns is voting rights after 35 years in the EU were handing most of our say away to the new countries .... It's going to end up like the bloody eurovision with all the "eastern neighbours" voting for each other....

why do you think the UK were denied a referendum? because it would probably have been defeated...

Sorry but I have to say imo get the feck out of the EU is what I would vote for given the choice.

Corruption beyond belief from the top to the bottom, even worse than our own mob.

Vote no just to upset the French who do nothing ever than to look after their own interests, irrespective of the consequences.

Funny how it was ok for them to vote no, but you will be in their bad books for having the audacity to do the same..... :tsktsk:

I firmly agree with Wozza, cost to stay in with the new rules and lack of control will ultimately be massive.

The rapid expansion will cost us greatly with both increased expenditure on any new countries and a cutting back of what the main nations will receive, not what you want in a global economic crisis.

Corruption is also rife and the :tsktsk: will always been out for themselves.

Vote NO for us poor buggers who have been lied to and refused the vote.

I agree with a NO vote. We would have no EU comissioner for 5 out of every 15 years, and as a member of the Irish army I am very sceptical about having a common EU defence policy. We would end up as just a faction of a larger EU army. As a neutral country we have so far been left relatively untouched by the retaliatary consequences of the "war on terror" but if a yes vote leads to a common defence policy and EU army/battlegroup missions we will all be equally suceptable to retaliation. I am not advocating the rights and wrongs of any individual nation's foriegn policy but merely stating my opinion. Rant over :whistling:
