Wing Mirror Removal

Recommended Posts

Can anyone explain how a wing mirror is removed from my car. I have a discolouration on the mirror glass and have to replace the interior part but I don't know how to remove the unit itself. Most grateful if anyone can help with advice. Thanks.

If you have to remove the whole unit then you will need to remove the door panel from inside. Disconnect your electrics from the switch panel on the arm rest(door) They are on plugs. Don't forget your puddle light at the bottom. Once the panel is removed you will get to the mirror bolts. The fixings holding the door panel on are turn and release, they are not threaded. All the bolts holding the armrest and door lock are behind plastic covers so be careful taking them off or you will not get them back on. DONT use a sharp screwdriver. Sounds like a lot of work but once you get started it's easy. Putting it back on is a lot quicker.

If it is just the glass why do you have to remove the full unit? Is the unit behind the glass damaged? If the glass is smashed then surely you just glue the new glass to the original position?

If it is just the glass that needs replacing then get the dealer to do it i paid £140 for my passenger side and the dealer was only to happy to fit and it took less than a minute, also do not allow the fluid in the mirror to get on the paintwork it will stain it very badly put a plastic bag over it until replaced.
