2001 Rx300 Navigator - Display Pal Or Ntsc

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'd like to know if the display in a 2001 RX Navigator (Not SE) is likely to be PAL or NTSC? Whichever it is, do they also display pictures from a source that's the other standard, bearing in mind it's an RGB display?

The display is RGB, not PAL or NTSC.

Hey, thanks for the info Colin.

Yeah OK, I knew that really but couldn't think how to put it simply. I suppose I was really asking about the timing aspect - i.e. will the display handle a signal even though there's less lines being sent than expected.

Using a NTSC to RGB convertor I've managed to get a NTSC signal to display fine, I believe others have had success with a PAL source as well.

Ah I see. I ask because I've got a Navtool's converter and with a PAL camera although I get some kind of picture, it's rolling very quickly downwards. The spec sheet for the convrter says it'll handle PAL/NTSC/SECAM inputs and PAL/NTSC outputs. I asked the manu and they just say I need an NTSC camera but won't/can't explain why...

If the converter actually syncs with the sync from the navigator then I could kind of understand, as the PAL signal with more lines wouldn't 'fit', but we're talking RGB not composite...?

<sigh> I've a feeling this is going to be painful.

I've had no problems getting a sync with an NTSC signal converted to RGB. I never tried a 50Hz PAL signal because when I looked at the sync coming from the Nav unit it was 60Hz so I just went with NTSC however I know somebody else did get a PAL signal to sync.

Cool.

I can now confirm that with an NTSC source, my Navtool converter works exactly as it should do. Happy now :)
