Dos Programming Help

On an EPOS system the parallel printer has a paper cutter attached which needs the ASCII code GS V 1,49 sending to it so that it operates.

There is an option to add a footer to the print out such as " Thank you for your custom".

Could I add the ASCII code above to the footer so that the cutter would operate after the footer? and if so what would the instruction be.

I am sure I could have done this myself 25 years ago but there must be decay in the grey matter and the DOS books are lost.

Thank you.

edit footer.txt

In footer.txt, put:-

Thank you for your custom

GS V 1,49

Every time you COPY footer.txt LPT1: I'd expect it to print the footer and cut the paper.

If the ASCII commands are a bit more unusual (like the Epson [ESC]-P ones) a hex-editor (plenty of free ones on the net) would come in handy.

If the software has settings for the printer it might be better to change the page break command - I'd add the ASCII codes there after the ^L (feed to end of page).

It's just a thought too - is the cutter failing to work *because* the page length is incorrect??

Thanks for your input.

I've not been able to do this at the shop due to time and space restrictions.

I think that I shall have to try and copy the whole contents of the disk and bring them home to look at them.

I've tried adding the Alt characters to the footer but the software is filtering these out and so won't allow me to insert them. I have no way of adding a footer file.

Again thanks for the info.
