Water Leak ?!

Recommended Posts

I noticed a rather damp smell this weekend coming from my beloved RX

Closer inspection revealed a damp carpet under the drivers seat and under the rear drivers side mat.

I have checked the door rubbers which look fine,

Any suggestions on what could cause this????

Could it be a blocked aircon drain, working its way back to the low point of the floor plan?

Thanks

Yes. Had this happen a Micra my mother had about 8 years ago.

Yep, I'd check for blockages too! It's happened to me in a couple of different cars I've had.

Especially if you park under trees often.

Yep, I just noticed it in my 03 rx 300 yesterday. Has anyone out there found the culprit, and fixed it. Where would the aircon drains be?

I've also heard that the Windshield wiper grill areas have drains in the front firewall that can get clogged up, causing water penetration into the cabin area, common on a lot of cars, not just lexus, my dads camry had it, really hard to fix, had to remove the dash, to find clogged drain pain, drain hose clogged.

On account of sodden carpets front and back, along with constantly condensed windows, I stripped out the seats, plastics and the carpet. It takes about an hour. I then replaced a rear door seal which had a big hole in it. With carpet cleaned and bone dry, I replaced everything a few days later. I discovered everything soaking again after two months! So stripped it out again last night and hosed it down from the outside. The water appears to be coming in down behind the inner wheel arch covers on the inside of car. I will be stripping again further this evening. I suspect that it's coming from either the aerial mount on the roof or the anchor point for the roof rails. Should have the answer shortly, as I notice a good few here with the same issue
