Auto Box Oil

Hi,

Gonna change me gearbox oil on wednesday, apart from the toyota oil has anyone used other brands that they recomend.

It is recommended to only use the Toyota Transmission Oil.

I know how expensive it is, but I wouldn't want to take the risk with anything else.

reason i ask is, i used to work for bmw in canada and when changing auto oil, on all the literature obviously it stated use genunine bmw only. But 90% off the time we and other local bmw dealers that i spoke to used aftermarket brands and had no problems at all.

Most of the time we used Mopar oil which is Daimler Chrysler brand and it worked better than the bmw oils.

does anybody know what is different about toyota transmission oil :)

I didn't use toyota oil in my box and it seems to be fine, can't remember the brand of the oil but its dexron 2, dexron 3 is also good enough.

i ve heard of people using other brands but never heard of any problems so is this just in the toyota handbook or is there more to it :) :)
