Valve Clearances And Transmission Fluid Change

Recommended Posts

Hi, would appreciate some help on the following:

I have a late 1999 Mk4 LS400 that's approaching 100k & according to the service book some periodic jobs need doing, notably the Auto transmission fluid change and valve clearances.

However , I can't seem to find any info on checking valve clearances for a MK4. Are they hydraulic on this model and non adjustable?

Also, I've seen some posts on changing transmisison fluid & it looks a bit of a job. Could someone give me an idea of a reasonable quote for an independent specialist to do it? There seems to be conflicting advice about which fluid to use as well.

Many thanks in advance.

Valve clearences are adjustable you have to mesure with a micrometer & change the shims accordingly hence 60k intervals, for locknut and screw every major sevice, hydraulic tapets don't need to be checked
