Seat Adjuster Switch

Recommended Posts

Hi, Newbie to this forum here, and hoping some of you knowledgeable people can help me out.

My car is a Lexus IS200 SE, on a 52 plate.

My Drivers side seat adjustment switch is playing up.

I moves the seat backwards fine, put doesn't seem to want to move the seat forward very often.

I have tried lubricating the switch with WD40, which seems to cure the problem for a day or two, but then i'm back to square one again.

I am 5'10 and my missus is 5'2 so as you can imagine this is a bit of a problem.

Has anyone ever removed/replaced the switch, and is it an easy task, i am an engineer and know which end of a spanner and screwdriver to hold, but didn't want to just dive in until i had got some feedback from you guys.

By the way, John Roe, my local Toyota dealer wants £200 for fitting a new switch, seems a bit steep to me, this is why i was gonnahave a go myself.

Many thanks in advance

Mumbo

There's some stuff in the online workshop manual which will probably help you.

Try this section and also this bit on troubleshooting the power seat operation.

Thanks for the link mate, great help.

I will remove the switch one evening this week and test the continuity in the varoius postions, as menyioned in the diagram and go from there, put it looks like i wont have to pay a dealer for the privilage :D .

Thanks again mate.

Just to let any body who might be interested in this thread or may be having similar problems know.

The switch is removed dead easy, just 3 screws, and the swicth comes apart with the help of a couple of assistants and about 6 terminal drivers to prise the clips open.

One of the contacts in side the switch was blackened with carbon from arcing that takes place when the contact is made, this was cleaned up with a fibre pen and re-assembled.

Bingo all working again.

Cost-nothing, my local dealer wanted almost £200 to do this, admitedly he would have changed the switch which would have made up nearly £50 of the bill.

I think the moral here is don't be afraid to have a go yourself.

Thanks to Steviewevie for the links, cheers mate.
