I currently run a 2005 GS430 but redundancy means it's got to go.

I've really enjoyed the Lexus experience so would like to continue with a tidy LS400 but I really don't know what to look for.

Should I spend £1500 on a 95 ish car or stretch to £4000 on a S4?

Is an S4 really £2.5k better than an S3?

The skinflint in me says to get a miley S3.

What do you think?

From personal experience and according to Toyota, if your going to buy an LS, get the newest best condition example you can, rather than getting an older lower mileage example.

Low mileage means lots of town pottering and wear, a 5 year old car with 150k on it will have less wear on it than a 10 year old 50k car, as its only pounded the motorway all day long, short runs wear out gearboxes, suspension, steering, exhausts etc much sooner.

Logic not quite perfect. You're ASSUMING lots of town driving. I only use my LS for long journeys, using (until recently) my Nissan S-Cargo in town. The rest of the time the LS sits comfortably at home. When I bought my car, it had only 400 miles between MOTs. And now I only do 3-4000 miles p.a.

The laws of physics relate to wear related to miles mainly?

I think that the Ser 4 is the best LS version; but that's only personal preference. It's got the original concept, perfected. The ride is firmer on later models I think?

I think £4K is a snip fo a Ser 4.
