Servicing Query

My IS 200 SE 04 reg is up for it's annual service - this time an intermediate one. It only has 27k miles on the clock thanks to me buying it from the estate of a deceased lady two years ago. She'd racked up about 10,000 miles before passing on.

Got a quote from Lexus Leeds just north of £200. Lexus Bradford will probably be similar.

My local garage (reputable, never had problems with them with any of my previous cars) quoted for the same work at £60 since they know the car and reckon at most it will need an oil filter changing.

Will going with the local make any difference to the resale value? I don't plan to change cars until 2014 or 100k miles, whichever comes first. All the other services have been by Lexus dealers.

well if i was you, i would get it done by a local garage if your going to keep it till 2014 or 100,000 miles. dont think it will make much difference to the value of the car in 2014 but it would be better if you provide genuine parts youself. get a quote from a local toyota garage. i find them cheaper than lexus.

Agreed, go with the reputable local garage but ask them to use parts approved by Lexus. They are often locally sourced parts anyway. Don't forget to change the timing belt and associated bits in 2010 (6 years old). When the time comes, if your local garage is not familiar, then try a Lexus specialist independent like that one in Glossop that members rave about. Can't remember the name but may be worth travelling for.

if you are selling soon then lexus all the way, as you're not then local garage with keeping your receipts for lexus parts, and keep their receipt for labour. the quite a bit of money you will save now and up to 2014 will far outway the slightly bit less you will get when you come to sell.

get the book stamped and keep your receipt's for the parts(if you go to toyota the parts will be cheaper) and it will prob make no diff to resale as you have got a service history.and if your garage knows the car what harm will it do to keep taking it their.it only harm it will do is your wallet will be heavyer from all the money your saving!!lol

Might be worth trying a few other Lexus dealers in the area - I was quoted around £400 less at Sheffield than at Leeds for 80k service and cambelt. I think the service itself was about £150 cheaper.
