Hi everyone

Many thanks for all your kind interest in servicing my LS400.

I have received all the parts and the garage have phoned to say that the timing belt that I have supplied is wrong.

VIN: JT153UF2000091288

Where is the engine number stamped?

They say they need a belt with 209 teeth, whereas the one I was supplied with was 2 teeth different.

The supplier tells me this indicates that the engine I have is too early for my vehicle.

Does this mean I have 240 rather than 260bhp?

Does Lexus have a muddly parts range like most other car manufacturers? I assumed that a car sold in relatively few numbers like the LS would have few parts changes.

Kindest regards

David

I believe the belts are the same for the 400 apart from the MK4 which has the VVTI engine. This doesn't include the 430 which may be different again.

Hi I don't know either, but the parts supplier have sent another belt, so will post the good news tomorrow?? when the car is fixed.

The garage and parts company have been amazing, so I think other owners should know.

Let us hope my euphoria isn't short lived!

Kindest regards

David

"R" was the change over plate for the LS400 from series 111 to series 1V.

If your car has the sat nav built in then its the series 1V with the VVTi engine.

Also if you pop the bonnet you will see VVTi on the plastic engine cover.

Hope this helps ?

Thanks for this info, my car is still at the garage awaiting the new belt to arrive, but I do know that the car isn't fitted with built-in sat nav. From memory I am sure that it has VVTi on the plastic engine cover - but will check when it comes back!

What do you mean by the R (change) - sorry for being dim!

Kindest regards

David
