Brake Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi guys just had my MOT done on my Sportcross and got the advisory note which stated:

"Front brakes only just met the front imbalance requirements. It would appear that the braking system requires adjustment or repair"

Had new Disc pad front+Brake Disc front fitted at Lexus Sheffield Aug 08

Any help  only done 4k since fitted. What should i do next.

Thanks jann

the max you can have is 24% imbalance then its a fail did they tell you what the imbalance was??

going buy what you say your brakes will still be in warranty(1 year from date fitted)so i'd take it back and get them to sort it,might just need greasing up.

you put both brake rollers on and depress the brake pedal slowly, on the brake meter screen you have two lines which move(left and right) if one moves faster than the other then thats your imbalance, the max is 25%(pushed the wrong button last time)between the front wheels(left and right).the brake imbalance for the rear has no affect on the mot have seen up too 39% but the rear is not a failable item as long as you have the minimum braking effort req for that vehicle weight on each wheel.

you can pass your mot with a 25% imbalance but i would recomend getting your brakes checked with that type of imbalance.

Please tell me if I'm being ridiculous, but that sounds like too large a difference to be acceptable? Obviously with all the electronics of modern cars like ABS and brake distribution that might not be such of an issue (and assume it wouldn't) but on a car with no aids, that could be a big problem for stability under braking?

take it up with vosa mate they set all the standards(mot testers dont decide if it passes the brake test the computer does once its worked it all out no human calculation takes place if the computer doesn't fail it i cant fail it) and they were set with cars with no aids!!!!!!the braking test is the same wether you have a old moris minor to a bently gt.(remember though you have to put in the cars weight though)

25%is less on a car thats 1ton than a car thats 2.5 tons if you know what i mean.

16%isn't that bad its really not so you'll prob not have a caliper problem(it would be more of a imbalance)prob stripping, cleaning and greasing the pads would be enough to get it down(you will never get a 0 imbalance best i've seen is 4%)

Gave Lexus a call i'm covered under 1years warranty so will look at it but if its a caliper they charge me for fitting a new one+labour charge <_<

Whats the chances of that happening  Are they about £200
