Manually Eject The Navigation Dvd

The following have been tested on GS300 (2008).

On some occasions it becomes virtually impossible to eject the navigation DVD by using the functions provided through the touch panel.

E.g. If by mistake you insert an audio CD/DVD into the navigation DVD unit that may cause the navigation system to reset itself continously at about a 5 sec. interval and thus making it impossible to use the EJECT DVD button right after the DISCLAIMER screen.

As I've read on numerous forum posts, the only apparent method to remove the inappropriate CD/DVD from the navigation unit is to disassemble the dashboard/DVD unit yourself (bad ideea) or by taking the car to the service (expensive).

Another quicker, somewhat safer and less expensive method is to make the navigation DVD unit believe that the disc is unreadable and so determine it to eject the disc.

WARNING: By following the steps below you may permanently damage the navigation DVD unit in a way that may possibly void the warranty.

Here's what you need:

* a forceps (or other solid thin blunt object to insert into the opening - I've personally used a forceps with rounded edges)

* adequate light

* good hearing

* steady hand

Here's how to do it:

1. make sure that the car is turned off (completely)

2. take the forceps and insert it through the opening of the navigation DVD unit, right under the white plastic above the disk (if you use a forceps don't try to grab the disk or anything else)

WARNING: The textile material surrounding the navigation DVD unit opening is somewhat fragile thus fibers may penetrate the opening and make their way onto the lens which are most likely impossible to clean without disassembling the unit.

3. press the forceps tip onto the disk to prevent it from spinning - make sure you don't apply too much force as to cause damage to the unit, but just enough as to do the trick.

4. press the ignition button once (do not start the engine) while carefully listening to the noise the navigation DVD unit makes

5. the unit will try reading the disc a couple of times. When you hear the noise specific to the eject procedure release the disc and remove the forceps from the navigation DVD unit as quickly as possible so that you don't cause damage to the eject system.

That's it.

Much easier method that is less intrusive which worked for me...

as above start with car "OFF"

If you carefully poke your finger tip into the ejection gap, just a couple or so Mil in you will feel the DVD.

Apply slight pressure to dvd to prevent it from being able to turn, then switch "ON".

After a couple of attempts of reading the dvd the system gives up, and gives you the option to eject the disc...........which is nice ;)
