Whats A Din

Recommended Posts

I am considering changing my CD unit for an after market system and keep seeing the reference to "Single DIN" and "Double DIN" but don't know what they mean,

Can anyone explain please.

Also has anyone got a picture of an aftermarket system fitted with one of the shop bought dash kits.

cheers

I can't tell you what it stands for.. but it's a bit of plastic that fill's the hole left by the standard Stereo, and offers a 'standardised' size slot for either one or two normal car stereos.

Sounds very technical for just a piece of plastic

I thought it was a very loud noise

Especially when i've got Metallica playing :nuke:

So, i simply pull the existing CD out and stick in a new head unit and one of these DIN things and away I go........what about the duel speakers at the rear, how are these connected sothey sound OK........Is there a good thread on here that explains all :lookaround:

Well... to be pedantic, you need to insert the DIN before you can install the new stereo...

As for the speakers.. well there are some products that can directly replace the dual i/p 6x9's.. probably best getting advice from an expert..

Ian.

This refers to the size of your head unit, the standard unit on most vehicles is a single din in some of the jap sporty types you will find double din units fitted as suggested the double din is twice the size, so check your measurements before you buy.
