Auto Gearbox Oil/fluid Change?

Hi Guys

when i had the is200 serviced last month, the mechanic said he think thats the auto box fluid needed changing along with the filter as it is very dark in colour.

i have since got a price from him of £140, using the proper lexus/toyota fluid, including a filter?

i am struggling to see why it should be so much? and why i need a new filter, the car is 2003 and has done 85k

can anyone shed any light?

Im sure they need a change around 50K for the auto box, and IMO you better off changing it early rather than late.

Im sure the IS200 Auto colour should be a red colour, and does go dark the more it needs changing

this is well past its use by then going from that info,

just wondering if the price sounds right though?

The filter is a steel mesh type filter so can be cleaned to save on the cost of replacement.

oh right ok, i will mention this to him, apparantly thats the expensive bit at £50 ish?

The fluid will need to be Toyota ATF Type IV approved such as this one http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60163-fuchs-ti...anese-cars.aspx and according to my book you will need 2.4ltr. Could be cheaper for you to purchase that fluid then the one from the garage.

oh so i can get an approved one? not have to go to the dealers?

they said that they dont sell it in 5litre (*whatever size) containers but draw it off from a massive barrell as and when needed?

i am not going to the dealer to get it done but my local mechanic rang them and this was the outcome!
