Finding Vin Number

Sent a v62 off for the Lex a while ago which needed Vin, Now the plate under the bonnet is not very clear and they have sent another letter requiring the vin off the plate under the bonnet not off reg docs (which i haven't got), My question is :- Where else if anywhere can i get the Vin number from? I know some manufacturers stamp on door bottom under carpet but dont want to drag carpets up if it's not there. Sorry it's a gs300 1997 sport.

Any help would be great.
