Rx300 - Sat-Nav And Reversing Camera

Recommended Posts

I have seen a very nice 2004 RX300 SE (70,000 miles) which I am thinking of buying but it doesn't have SAT-NAV or the colour reversing camera. Has anybody replaced the OEM unit with an after market in-dash system. I have seen 1 post on this forum about the air con button not working after changing the original unit and problems getting a matching faceplate.

BTW, my local lexus dealer is offering me a 4 year service plan (70k on clock) which will include the cam belt change at 100k for £1,058.12 - monthly payments of about £26 for 39 months. Seems like a good deal to me - 4 services including a major one and MOTs included.

Any pointers would be very helpfull.

Thanks.

Vincent

I have a 2005 RX400h. This is the first generation hybrid and comes without the SAT NAV and reverse camera. The SAT NAV models were out of my budget and were atleast a couple of grand more. I just got it yesterday and took it to my local after market specialist. He owns the model you have so that was helful as he knew exactly what to do in the car. Now, I was surprised to find that he has a custom built fascia that completely replaces the lower part (CD Player/radio/cassette) unit and which can take a double din player. He told me he got it somewhere from the US and ordered 2. He wouldnt tell me where he got it though but its the exact same silvery colour as you see on the volume/radio switches on the sides of the black middle bits with the slot loading CD player. I was initially considering a Bluetooth system, reverse parking sensors and a MP3 USB player that patches into the stock system. After seeing this fascia, it has opened up a raft of possibilities for me. I can get a double din player with sat nav, rear camera, Bluetooth, USB stick MP3, Ipod connectivity all in one. It will bring it at par with the other SAT NAV models, only better, as the aftermarket sound quality will be much enhanced.

I am now on a mission to hunt down this rogue fascia on the internet and source all the required kit as cheap as possible. This way I can have everything I want hopefully under £700. Will need to pay for the fitting though, as the wires will go all over the place. We need to consider GPS unit on the top of the car, Bluetooth mic near the rear view mirror, reversing camera on the license plate, USB cable in the glove compartment and ripping out the stock system.

Perhaps we can both look for this fascia online and feed back to each other? BTW, he wanted £120 just for the fascia. I am sure it cant be that steep, but hey its an extremely niche product so who knows.

Something has just occured to me and perhaps I can use this thread for some answers of my own. So I am thinking of getting an Kenwood aftermarket double din satnav and the works. Does anyone know how we can get it to work with the lexus factory steering remote?

Any ideas?

This is the unit I am interested in.

Have a look at the beatsonicusa web site. They have various facia adapters for sat-nav and non sat-nav models.

The SLA-82AAD should allow you to retain all existing controls using an after-market unit apparently.
