Removing Glovebox Shelf

Recommended Posts

Hi There,

I'm trying to investigate a rattle that appears to be coming from inside the Glovebox area of my IS.

I've emptied the contents etc and the rattle is still there. Someone has suggested it could be something to do with the access panel for the Climate Control Filter at the back of the Glovebox, but inorder to check it out properly i need to remove the shelf.

I can't see any securing points for this and have given it a little pull put it's still firmly in place. I don't want to get too heavy handed with it and was hoping someone would know how to remove the shelf without damage please?

It's rather firm the first time.

The rattle is most likely not from the glovebox itself (it appears to come from there). On a cold morning after the car has been sitting in the cold for a while, take someone with you on a drive & drive down some roads with rough surface. When the noise appears get the passenger to push and hold the dash in towads the windscreen (pressing it by the area on the dash that says SRS Airbag). When this is done, if the noise stops then it's the problem with the dashboard retainer clips. These clips are a nuisance and rattle like crazy at times. The solution is to insulate them with sound deadening felt/foam

Hi guy's

Thank you for the tips so far.

It's been back to the dealer a coupe of times and they say they couldn't see/hear anything obvious when removing the top of the dash or test driving but did add more padding, the rattle is very intermittant and can happen on any surface except very smooth new tarmac and seems to be worse the warmer the weather, it's frustrating.

As for actually removing the shelf i managed to get step 1 (lifting the shelf from the bottom of the glove box) from the diagram done with a bit of effort, but still struggling with step 2 removing it from the side of the glovebox am i right in thinking it should just pull away?
