Goodridge has been mentioned here for brake lines but does anyone know what the likely cost may be to replace the complete metal brake pipes that seem to go rusty on LS400's? The Goodridge stuff just seems to be the part that goes towards the brake hub - I'd like to replace the whole pipe.

Also be interested to know the likely time this might take - having had a look under the car the pipes look a bit tricky due to the location and the bends in the pipes. They are not leaking fluid but I just fancy getting them done. Is the dealer the only place to go?

Hi, brake pipes and lines are usually easy peasy for any competent general mechanic to achieve. The hardware is usually quite inexpensive and the bends are usually the norm, shaped according to the car's contours.

They often look " rusty " but are mostly NOT. But it's good to catch them b4 they start to perish and leak anyway.

Methinks a main Lexus dealer would charge two arms and legs to do them ...... anybody else would be " normal ".

Anyone else a better view of this issue ?

Best wishes.

My brake pipes (back to front) were perforated badly, as was thye cross piece. Independant garage (owner is a fully trained Lexus mechanic) charged me £100 parts and labour (copper pipes used).
