  1. Thank you. I'll put that in my diary for about 2028 then ......... when the new cambelt and waterpump I'm having done this month ( while I'm away in India ) will be due again for renewal Malc
  2. blimey, just looked on that " how many left " website and there's only about 1500 VW Phaetons on the road last year compared to just under 500 ( new model 3.5ltr ) Honda Legends which retail price are a tad more expensive ( I have one too ) and 1800 Lexus Ls430s and 750 Ls460s and 725 Ls600s and some 1900 Ls400s ......... and the last of these were built some 18 years ago Malc
  3. hope you got a satisfactory outcome ? Malc
  4. worries me if ever i come to change my steed ............. now at 203k miles ............. and 15 years with Ls400s Are the more recent Lexus models of such poor comparative quality that one really has to consider taking an extended warranty ? Must be having a goddam awful reputation by now ! Malc
  5. hmm.......... I guess I'm lucky, I'm told the capacitors on my rev counter aren't often connecting properly in certain heat/weather climes and I have to live with irrational but sometimes spot-on rev counter readings. Therefore i don't bother to notice the reading often these days..... last year when the rev counter was all ok i did once or twice redline her to 6000 revs ........... didn't seem a problem and quite honestly I never thought i would ever do that. It's a bit scary tbh .............. I think she performs impeccably at 0 - 60 in the statutory 6.9 seconds and i don't doubt would readily reach 155 mph ............. but us old buggers rarely have the need to go that quick or fast .......... except when pulling away at the traffic lights alongside go-faster Audis or boy racers Malc sorry i digress a little
  6. I'm thinking the gearbox mount will be quite inexpensive from a Lexus/Toyota main dealer spares dept ..... and good coffee and bikkies while you're being served Malc
  7. Tim hi and welcome there's a huge amount of comparative thoughts on this forum advising and suggesting about the options Mountains to read tbh Many have ( well a few anyway ) either the Ls460 or the Ls600 and i too have been thinking about changing to one or the other ...... reading this stuff over many many months i think I'm favouring a 10 year old Ls600 ........... there seem to be plenty about and many with excellent Full Service History and often from Lexus main dealers at really not much money ... well, the first careful owner having spent starship money on servicing and losing huge depreciation £££ ...................... they will have spent nigh on £100k + and now available from say £12 to £20k My 15 years ownership of first a Mk1 then a Mk2 and now 6.5 years of my Mk3 with 203k miles .............. one day i might change, and it will likely be a Ls600 Good luck whatever Malc
  8. the lpg set-up might be causing an issue ? you do have lpg ? . it's in the name ! Didn't know the Mk4 had the stalling syndrome, thought it was just the Mk3 whatever, the revs seem ridiculously low in all the instances you mention Malc
  9. I would just tell him you are issuing the summons ( on line ) and that you will easily win the argument and he will have to repay the £100 plus the £60 ? Court fees too ........... that's automatic. Malc
  10. Service Plans

.................. rest assured you pay for it somehow ! Malc
  11. a thought ...........if the car wasn't as described i would issue a simple Court summons against him for fraud or summat ....... he will pay you the £100 plus the Court fees ( £60 ) if he doesn't return your £100 immediately ... i would think How did you pay the £100 / by card or bank transfer ...... has a bearing Chat with the Citizens Advice Bureau initially Malc
  12. .............. I always used to carry a short broom handle in my Mk1 Ls400 ( about 100 years ago now ) ............ so rare to ever need to lift the bonnet .... really just to check the washer bottle ......... any servicing was done by my mechanic and he could use his own broom handle if he wanted Malc
  13. That's odd ............. when I went on mine recently they told us that we didn't need to advise................. and that being on the course and satisfactorily completing it, the records were then expunged. Malc
  14. on my now long gone Mazda 323f the MOT reading one year was 10,000 miles out ........... but made up for it on the next MOT ok . the Tester just input an incorrect reading. It happens ! Malc
  15. yes I understand that but i guess the car possibly came from a " good " household to end up at a dealer in T/Wells Malc
  16. just noted the Ls600 boot capacity is only 330 ltrs Ls400 is 393 ltrs Malc
  17. looks a lovely car tbh notwithstanding it's being sold with a huge number of Advisories for stuff that really needs attention before the next MOT ( or even right now ! ) Looks like a Royal Tunbridge Wells phone number and maybe an elderly owner from a well respected address methinks .... might be good ........... and price negotiable to sort out some or all of the Advisories perhaps Malc
  18. last night saw a TV advert for a new car, on finance and an upfront deposit etc with FREE 3 years insurance ........... maybe a Peugeot but not sure wonder if something like that might be an option ! Malc
  19. So Whats Your Profession?

oh my, not had a proper proper job for about 25 years now ( ex city banker ) ............. just own my own travel agency business now and semi-retired www.worldbesttravels.com Malc
  20. aha, but they have a limited life warranty of only 1,000,000 miles ........ pretty useless if you're keeping the car forever ........ must always read the small print Malc jokingly mentioned but true ............ I'll ask my indy about getting one at the next service ........ I know an air filter used to last two years, it's now down to one year, I live in the same general area so the pollutant levels in the air must be worsening I guess
  21. .............. and the original Mk1 Ls400 never did have any change by date or mileage .............. suggested by Lexus as I read on here sometime, somewhere ... and I understand it was a non-interference thingy so even if it did snap the engine wouldn't be knackered ........ but when the waterpump goes, well, how unfortunate Malc
  22. .............but even with the cambelt due by time/years it doesn't mean to say that the cambelt might go pop any time soon ......... maybe another year or two or more left tbh ........ i remember reading the true life expectancy of a Ls400 cam belt is @150k miles before it actually goes " pop " Malc
  23. ................ third party only insurance on a beat-up old Ls400 for scrap money or less, with a long MOT, might be an idea ! We dare you ...... ( probably impossible to insure tbh ) Malc
  24. ............. they would write our cars off for something as insignificant as a scratched bumper if you dared to claim ! Malc
  25. bit short on stockists .............. for me 100 miles away and I'm in Kent Malc
