For the past few months I have had an intermittent problem with getting an Error 4 message on my ML stereo, resulting in the stereo not playing or ejecting CD's. This has previously rectified itself when I stop and restart the engine.

However since the same happened on Friday the "stop start" fix no longer works. Anyone else got any tips on how to sort this?

Thanks

I'm sure that means you need a new unit; not sure if its a simple case of finding one at a Breakers yard and swapping out the device or if it needs something fancy. But Error 4 means its U/S.

I believe error 4 is related to the CD system and is usually a problem with the mechanism. If so, I reputable car stereo company should be able to repair it for you and it might be that the sensors are dirty. Bannings in Guildford have fixed OEM stereos for me on previous cars.

Please note that the extended warranty does not cover your audio system, only new car warranty does.

Thanks the Error tended to occur when switching between discs, its what happened Friday. Sounds like its goosed.

It is due to go for its next service in around a 1000 miles, probably May time. Whilst it is my car it is fleet maintained, how much would new head unit be? I have a £1,750 allowance a year towards repairs/maintenance, May would be the start of a new year. This last year I have had new sunroof motor, replacement of rear air suspension, 2 or 3 tyres, discs and pads all round so I am probably well over that limit for this year already.

Other alternative is just get rid... :crybaby:

You speak of getting rid of it - how old is this conveyance? As an RX300 it must surely be f or more years old?

Dealership seemed pretty uninterested in the Error 4 issue. Simply said it would cost a fortune to sort, so probably not woth it on a car approaching 7 years old. Anyone know a reputable Hifi specialist in Manchester area that might take a look at it, if only to get my CD's out.
