I dont drive the LS much these days. Too expensive with my weekly mileage so i dont know how long its been doing this (Wifie type person says she hasnt heard anything)

But i took it for a test drive after fitting new rear trailing arm bushes and the belt is twittering.

Im wordering weather its the belt or the alternator. The alternator is less than 2 years old so should be ok.

Spray a bit of WD40 on the belt whilst it is running,if it goes quiet, it's probably just the belt

Check it for cracks and wear.

If its still making a noise, check all the things it's driving!

I've heard of the wd40 trick before but some people say that's a bad idea that just covers up the squeaking by stopping the belt griping properly which seems feasible, who to believe is the question as I don't know enough about belts etc, I just assumed they were meant to grip and that squeaking meant time for a new one.

Mine made a squeaking sound for the 1st few minutes when the weather was cold and I found it was the top idler pulley, I hit it with WD40 and it sorted it out.

Some one once said to use talcum powder on squeeling belts.

There again you could just open the bonnet and let the wife out!!! :D
