I've just been to look at a Mk4 LS400 today - I've not had my Mk1 very long but am seriously considering a swop (well mine and a few quid as well !).

The dealer offered me what he said was a "fair" PX on mine, but I was hoping for a little more seeing as the MK4 is 17K.

Any idea's on what mine is worth ?

Brief description.

1992 Mk1 LS400 (Duel Fuel LPG/Petrol)

the car is mint, most of the niggles sorted (see previous posts), new power steering pump, timing belts, major C service - all within the last 3000 miles. Full MOT, 117K miles. The car is the pearl white with aftermarket alloys (soz the pic isn;t very good).

The only problems which I have not had sorted is the aircon being a bit "weak" (as mentioned in previous posts) and the drivers memory seat doesn't store the memory - which doesn't bother me as I am the only driver (I keep the wife well away and hide my keys at all times !!)

What do you think ???

reckon yours is privately worth more as dealers will be weary of LPG. a lexus dealer wont want it AT ALL! CHris Shipley can prob confirm this...

reckon private you could draw £4k

dealers will doubtless offer you £2500 - £3500 dependant on the margin in their car. if a dealer offers you 4-5 k then they have a massivbe margin in their car...

Anyone think I am way off base here?

I'd have to agree with Loz, as usual he's right! :)

you're better off trying to sell it privately, unless you're really in a hurry to get rid. privately you might even be able to make £4500 if you try hard enough, from a dealer I wont expect you to get more then £3k for it.

Of course if you sell it privately you might have to wait a couple of weeks/months before a buyer turns up, you'll have to deal with loadsa fake buyers and people that just want to got for a test drive, that kinda thing, whereas if you trade it in you can have it all organized within a couple of days

Thanks for your input guy's - looks as though my car isn't worth as much as I thought. The dealer offered me 4.5K, but did say he would discount for no px - so really I am getting less for my car.

I thought being LPG would be a big bonus especially on a 4.0 litre car !

I think I will have a go and try and sell privatly - watch out Autotrader here I come.

Cheers !!

Oh yes - the Mk4 is an "S" reg with only 45K on the clock and is mint - really mint !!!

Hi - you might find the website - www.carpricer.co.uk useful, click on the Glasses guide icon and input your car. This will give you auction and retail price. The auction price is what the dealer will hope to get back on your car as a part ex.
