Rx300 Wet Footwells

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My 2004 RX300 has recently begun retaining large amounts of water under the carpets in the front and rear footwells. There doesn't appear to be any noticeable leaks around the door frames or any of the surfaces leading to the footwells. It's no worse in any one footwell and seems to occur when stationary as well as when driven. Have been keeping the car in a garage and trying to dry it out with an electric heater, but not having a huge amount of success.

Has anyone experienced similar or have an idea what might be causing the water to collect in all of the footwells?

Thanks in advance,

Tim

Hello Tim and welcome to the LOC.

One of the most common causes on other models are blocked sun roof drain pipes which allows a build up of water around the seal which then overflows into the car.

Fully opening the sunroof normally exposes the drain holes and the normal way of clearing them is to use the very thick nylon strimmer cord you can get from garden centres or DIY stores and poke it down the drains.

I dont know if it is the same on yours but the rear drain pipes often pass through the boot area then out under the car via gromits and these pipes have also ben known to come out of the gromits so empty into the boot area which eventually overflows into the front of the vehicle.
