Speed Limit Reductions

I don't know if this is nationwide or just restricted to my local area/authority but speed limits appear to be being reduced on local roads for "Safety Reasons"

Recently the A610 at Codnor has been taken from 50 MPH to 40 MPH after a resurface ( well wet tar and grit treatment to be accurate)

The reason I suspect is to make the accident figures look better but when you re subjected to a 40MPH limit on an A class road and then see the National speed limit allowed on some back country lane what's going off?

There were also reports of a 20MPH area actually having an increase in accidents since it was dropped from 30mph!

I'm waiting for the return of the man walking in front of the car with a red flag.

The reports I saw stated an increase in accidents on 20mph roads but a decrease in accidents on 30mph roads. This seemed to baffle some so-called experts from ROSPA. I would imagine though that if there are more roads being reclassified from 30mph to 20mph then the explanation is obvious!

As for the man with the red flag, that won't happen as our overzealous health & safety regs would not permit it!!!!! :driving:

Speed doesn't cause accidents bad driving does. Speed makes an accident worse if it happens but driving 5 feet behind someone on the motorway is far far more dangerous than driving 100+ on a completely empty motorway.
