Another Ls Starter Motor Question

Just covering all options here before parting with lots of money. The starter motor in most instances just clicks and all the dash lights go dark as it draws from the Battery. Sometimes the starter will turn just a bit but sounds like it's struggling, then it may just spin as it should. I've checked Battery terminals etc.

Does it sound like I'm just wasting time, is there anything else I should check, or do you think I just need to book it in somewhere and have the work done?

I'm not sure every mechanic will want to replace parts in the old starter so should I be looking to get a new one. I see there are some on that auction site from the States that look reasonable. I need to get this done asap as I'm working away for 2 months starting in October otherwise the car will be left standing until early December.

Phil

And a PS is this what I need if the old motor is repaired? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-LS400-4-0-VVTi-V8-UCF20-1998-2000-STARTER-MOTOR-SOLENOID-REPAIR-KIT-/251147391512?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a798d1218

Have you not got a local autoelectric place who could diagnose your problems? I would not contemplate replacing starter motors or anything else unless I knew that it was what the fault actually was.

I don't know anyone that specialises in auto electronics. It does seem to be a common problem with these starters, and the Lexus as you know a little more complex than some so it would need someone, I'm guessing, who really knows these cars . I do have a number to call tomorrow so I'll see what happens there. Thanks
