Is250 Unsure About Tyre Size's.

Good afternoon, i have been looking through the forum a fair amount but am a little unsure which direction to take regarding wheels & tyres. I bought my OH an is250 on an 09 plate & it is running on 17'' rims with 245/45/17 on all 4. I notice it seems to tramline quiet a bit particularly on poor road surfaces, of which there are many around where we live. I have a few questions.

1, would i be better off fitting 225's on the front and keep 245's on the rear?

2, we live in a hilly part of Hertfordshire and if the weather gets bad would it be better to get a set of 16'' rims with 205/55 or a used set of winter tyres for the 17'' rims.

3, are all-season tyres any good and which would be recommended?

4, Has or is anyone in southern england going to change to winter tyres this year, is it deemed necessary considering we dont get much snow, apart from last years.

I have read numerous responses on the subject but would like to hear some updated opinions.

As far as I am aware you should have 245 on the rear and 225 on the front. This is how they come from Lexus.

I have heard of people fitting 225 all round to save money but never 245.

Either way, all four alloy wheels are the same size, it's just the tyres that vary.

It might be worth getting a pair of 225 on the front and keeping the 245 as spares for the rear.

This might reduce the tram line effect.

As for winter tyres, I have heard good things bout these although I have never personally tried them.

I do however have some tyre socks which I bought for about £70. They fit to the two driving wheels (rear) and worked very well in snow and ice. Not for driving on clear roads though so you need to remove them once out of the snow. For the amount of times I actually needed them they worked fantastic.

cheers for the reply. I am looking at Vredestein Quatrac 3 All Season Tyres as they score highly in tests, but the largest they do is a 225/45/17, but would that be ok considering Lexus have 245's on the rear?

Lexus told me that 225 was fine all the way round and apparently a lot of people prefer it for cost reasons and it slightly reduces road noise.

I never rely understood why such a wide tyre was needed on the Lexus but I'm sure after much testing it was done for a reason.

Maybe somebody else on here will have an explanation.

I have 18" wheels for summer with 225 front and 245 rear

I bought 17" wheels last year and put on winter tyres, 225 all round

I will swap over from November to March

The main reason is to be able to safely use the car in all weather and get out of the way when folks are using summer tyres in sub zero temperatures
